The beginning of the journey...

Saturday 13th of December

In the morning we participated in a number of ice breaker sessions  We also spent time getting to know each other through presentations and discussions. In the morning the London leaders discussed how life is like as a London student, the three Leaders were: Zakariya, Zaynab and Abbas.

We had a two hour tour going through the hills and mountains exploring the landscape of this part of the lake district.  This gave us an opportunity to have some fun and get to know each other better; and take loads and loads of photographs!

We had group discussions about the human rights in London and Palestine, we compared the different stories and experiences. The Palestinians were shocked by the amount of homeless people in Britain, tuition fees, anti-Islam attitudes and how ethnic minorities felt in London. One of the groups highlighted the lack of representation of ethnic groups and their limited role in British society. The Palestinian students presented about different aspects of their lives.

In the evening we welcomed a group of local visitors who are active in supporting the Israel-Palestine cause, they came to listen to the range of presentations affecting the livelihood of the Palestinians in Abu Dis and other areas of Palestine.

The local visitors were also invited to join us in tasting the lovely Palestinian homemade dish: Ma'qloubeh (which means upside down).
