Women's exchange March 2015 - 'Come and Sing'

Update on the women’s visit

Thanks to everyone who could take part in our meeting when the Palestinian women were here. Sorry it was very difficult because of the technology.

Where we are at the moment

1 – Dates for the visit: we are suggesting now Thurs 12th March to Monday 23rd March

2 – Places: many groups are interested and we are happy to design a programme that starts in North Wales with a residential for the group together, finishes in London all together and  divides into groups  en route to make sure we can include all of these places.  We have done this before and it has worked well.

The ones in green capitals are our PARTNERS in this visit (we are bringing visitors from their partner places in Palestine) (added here in small green letters)

·         Bangor/ Carmarthen
·         LLANIDLOES (As Sawiya)
·         Knighton
·         PENDLE (Beit Leed)
·         Worcester
·         Leamington
·         NORTHAMPTON (Al Bireh)
·         HACKNEY (Beit Sourik)
·         South East London
·         Tower Hamlets (possible partner, not confirmed ... Jenin)
·         CAMDEN (well this is us ... Abu Dis)

3 – Programme – to follow asap

5.  Singing – The theme of the visit is singing (but human rights is the aim and cultural exchange as usual of course) and the name is taken from our ‘Common Ground’ music visit when a choir in Aberystwyth added a song called ‘Come and Sing’ to the project... it was taken over and became central to a number of performances (‘Come and sing for Palestine’)

5-  Context - This exchange is run by CADFA which has done many similar things, see our website www.camdenabudis.net.  Please look out for our book and film ‘ Stories from our Mothers’ and also the project blogs of previous women’s visits – see the women’s webpage on our website.

This is part of the Twinning in Action project : see this page and the Twinning in Action blog

4 –Objectives – The objectives of the Come and Sing  are
·         To strengthen the links between organisations in Britain and Palestine
·         For  young women from the UK and Palestine to meet, learn about the other country and its culture and compare similarities and differences in their lives.
·         To increase their awareness of human rights issues and to challenge discrimination
·         To give them an opportunity to share singing together and with people in other groups

5 - Organisation – We will draw up a memo of understanding with our partner groups to try and ensure that we work together with the same assumptions and understandings.  Your input is important at all stages! We will be the key co-ordinators and please if groups liaise (do of course) then keep us in the loop.

6 - Communication. It’s important that we are all properly in touch and email will be important – we’ll also make a dropbox for info we all need and send our partners a link. We will also be using a blog for the visit – details to follow.

7- Palestinian visitors. Twelve of the group have their applications for visas in now. We are still talking to our friends in Llanidloes and Tower Hamlets about visitors from their twinning places. We have a few days because we have postponed the visit slightly (see above)

8- Participants from the UK. This visit is a great opportunity for women here to spend time with the Palestinian women and we’d like to hear as soon as possible from people who are interested in doing this. We have an application form on the Twinning in Action web-page

Main participants who are young women (under 25 and some under 30) but there are ways for women above that age to be involved – don’t hesitate to ask about this.

We welcome applications from anywhere and will be particularly happy to have them from the groups that are partners in the project.  There is no charge for the residential but we do ask people who join it to join CADFA and to commit to doing a report at the end and some feedback to follow. Please direct people to us with their questions as soon as possible!
